Diva Challenge #284

Challenge: Monotangle Tripoli - a Zentangle original

Advise needed from my fellow tanglers - what do you use to shade tangles drawn on a coloured background?

  1. A nice variation of Tripoli on a nice background. The background is grey and you have used grey for the shadow, I would do the same. When the background was f.e. blue I would chose a blue pencil to add more shadow (and sometimes even with a grey pencil too)I think you are doing it well!

  2. Nice work with the Tripoli. Once I have committed to using color, I like to do the shading with color as well and then I like to add white for highlights.

  3. It depends on the tangles and the colour of the background. I've just done one with popsicle and still used my graphite because the fill lines were so close together. A white charcoal pencil is great for adding highlights but you'll need to use fixative.

This is great, I think I need to do a tripoli sampler tile with all the fills I can find for future reference! Thanks for the idea.

  6. Pretty Tripolivariations! Good idea to sample the different fillers on one tile. For shading: often graphite and white charcoalpencil for highlights. Sometimes colorpencils depending on what colors there are in the background. And sometimes grey promarker.

  7. Most of the time I use a graphite pencil (4B) for shading on colored tiles. Once in a while a pencil in a darker color then the tile. I like your Tripoli!
